Rubicon Express is known for having probably the best lift kit available for the XJ..

Also a good resource for XJ info is http://www.cherokeeforum.com as well as http://www.NAXJA.org

I think Iron Rock Off-Road (IRO) makes the best Cherokee lifts. Rusty's are good too, as are Rubicon Express.

If your jeep is a XJ and you dont want to make big mods and spend a lot of money then I would go with a lift no more than 4 inches even the 3 inch is good especially if your rear springs are sagging (common)
Rough country is good, and the pro comp black is good but a little pricey. You want to go higher and like the long arm look then its Rusty off road.
I would only peice together a kit or custom build one if I had a great knowledge of off road suspentions Like rock crawling set ups ( And I do)
Now if you just want to lift 2 inches then go with rev-tec or anyone that offers front spacer disc's and a add-a-leaf rear and proper length shocks
Good Luck

I have seen 2 inch suspension lifts with 33's on the trails but you can't disconnect the front sway bar (for articulation) without rubbing. Otherwise, you'll be fine. I went with a 2.5 inch suspension lift from Rough Country. $299 for springs and shocks, but I also installed a track bar relocation bracket in the back. Then I went with a 1" body lift. Now I have my clearance, articulation, and I didn't have to lower my T-case or purchase an expensive Slip Yoke Eliminator and/or CV drive shaft.

Everyone has his/her opinion on lifts. Mine opinion is based on what you are wanting out of the lift?

If you will be off-roading aggressively then go with a suspension lift. It will give your entire jeep more clearance for less chance at high centering.

If you just want the "looker", go with the body lift. The body lift gives you the space to put larger tires on your jeep which in turn lifts your entire chassis giving you a little more room for the every now and then off road experience.

In Oklahoma you can get a 2" body lift and a wheel and tire package for $1500-$2000. Not bad for a more aggressive look.

There was an article in a recent JP magazine that showed how to get 40" tires on a Wrangler without any lift at all. Lots of cutting, though. For 33's on a TJ Wrangler, you need 2" and should go with 3".

I do not recommend any higher than a 1" body lift. If you go with a 3" body lift you create lots of problems that do not come with a 1" lift - shifters, for example, don't work correctly. Wiring and brake lines get stretched an stressed.

I would recommend a 2" suspension lift known as a budget boost - it uses spring spacers instead of replacing springs, and can be purchased for short money. Add a 1" body lift and you're good to go, and you don't have that funny looking 3" gap around the bottom of your jeep.

just put really big wheels and really tall fat tires on it. Suspension upgrades are really expensive, especially if you are not going to do much off-roading.
